Throgmorton Lane, Post Office Court
Gerrard and National, Warburgs; they all came to nought.
The Lamb, Simpsons, George and Vulture
Raffles, The Antelope, Number 19 and Hair Sculpture.

Honda 70, BSA, Golf and Passat
Henrietta, Carol, rich and poor Anthony and all that.
Sutherland Place, King’s Road and Sloane Street
The Caledonian and Special Forces Club is where we would meet.

West London College, Rapid Results by mail
The Library ensured the Institute of Bankers was a pass not a fail.
Weekends at dances, After Eights for the host
Sawbridgeworth, Minster Lovell, with thank you letters by post.

Sloane Ranger Handbook, Floodlight, Race Cards and lists
For weddings long forgotten, though the bridesmaids were kissed.
We stayed at big houses and took our share of the wine
While proud parents gasped at us, oh dear they are so fine.

Engagements heralded the summer and for a reason
Overdrafts would be needed to buy into the season.
Free drinks at gate-crashed parties, and evenings in the bar
Then morning headaches, long lunches and sleeping in the car.

We knew nothing of Ramadan, Eid or organised religion,
I gave a lunch party of baked grapefruit followed by pigeon.
And I never remember washing anything even my clothes
So at the end we achieved very little but managed a pose.
