Go your own way by Fleetwood Mac

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
Or you can go your own way

Go and take the coward’s way out
It’s not for you to brave the brick wall
Or on the allocated day on a gurney strapped
Not begging for redemption or recognition

No it is us who will queue patiently like refugees
Never complaining in the cold wearing blue anoraks
Un-ironed shirts, no ties, frayed hems
Then sitting and pulling up our sleeves and hoping

We will watch as the phials are unloaded
Into the cold needle which is our weapon
Filled upside down spurting bubbles to the sky
Then resting on aged mottled skin before the push

Mouths with loose teeth will clench
As the lance digs deep in weak white muscle
Then ejaculates the secret agent into thin walled veins
Its moment of deep pleasure unseen

Unaware of him you slide along our bloody highway
Pushed from side to side and bumping others
Then you are to be found lacking and eliminated
Into the pulsing moonscape of our body

We brace as the cold cleaning swabs wipe
Warm eyes and kindly words break our hearts
We now go our own way unhindered
It is no longer a lonely day
